Day 23-24-25-26

Christmas was spent in college waiting for Santa to come & verify our Audits... playing with accounts, interests, economic theory... & other comblicated stuff....Ayyooo....

Thankfully, we had an off on Monday. From 7 in the morning till 1.30 midnight, was worshipping the comp; like a sacred deity... Never experienced so much pressure even @ Eng. Woke up early mrng to malke tea, & realised tgas as not working. Rushed to the other end of Belapur on a borrowed bicycle to replace the cyclinder. Along the way, met my friend Sharad; who happnd to be there for a photo shoot. Finaly got to cycle around Belapur & quite enjoyed it. No sooner was I back with a new cyclinder, did I realise that the burner had gone cranky... What a day.. ushed back to the repair shop, got it repaired, drilled a hole of 130 bucks... & finally after 2 hrs of running around, I got to drink my bed tea finally @ 1.30pm... Hunger was satisfied with rounds of Maggi & Coffee & Tea... Lost track of the amount of tea we drank.. just to complete the presentations & synopsis.
Finally, managed to complete the synopsis by 1.30am & called it a day. The next mrng, woke up with the presentation hangover.. had to give a presentation about some rotten book called :Rich Dad Poor Dad...." Aigeee... it was like Just in Time....managed to put the last slide in place as my turn came up. The presentation was cool... made my usual remarks & expressed my displeasure about the book.... A big BIG mistake......
The Big Boss..who apparently had read the book ( it hapened to be one of is personal favourite)
realised, I had skipped a lot in sharing info abt the book..( what else can u expect, when u need complete reading some 200 odd pages & complete ppt & all that Jazz..in 4 hrs...after having taken into account time spent in the loo, tea, brkfast,etc....) ..He mad his displeasure felt ..& forced al of us to give another presentation next week.... Just couldn't believe my ears.... This book seems to have become my umbilical chord for now....Aigeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a great relief to see the day coming to an end. The best way to unwind was to watch a movie.. So along with the Jamaican lass, the Bangalurrru..Lass (who was inflicted with Malaria), & rest of the gang, we ended up watching " Seven Years in Tibet" . The movie was well made..though the book as usual is much better..... Brad Pitt rocks.. & so does the Tibetian woman... Dany Denzongappa too plays some part.

Slept peacefully..... It was Heaven..... Well deserved sleep....

Today, we were in for another shock.... JAN..1,2,3... all trek & Mast bekaar araam plans have gone for a toss... presntations more n more... Never had such a rocking beginning to the New Year.... Need to nourish myself with nutrisious food....
Btw... did u know... The Most SEXIEST MAN on list of PEOPLE Mag's ..ahead of Brad Pitt ..& others.. & most of all, he is an Indian... Would have expected the Indian Media to go bonkers..... celebrating the rise of the Indian Male..... on the WORLD scene.....

Now, i am feeling extremely hungry.... can't afford to write anything else..... time to bid adeau.

Day 22:

Under Pressure..Coming Down on Me..Coming Down on Us..Under Pressure...
That's exactly what the situation is, as of now.... The backlog is piling up, the routine is falling in place & the pressure is building.

Theory of Economics was what we were introduced to. Makes a lot os sense while reading what someone else has postulated or analysed. The trouble emerges, as soon as one starts applying once own logic to understand the fundas...
Then macro, micro, nano , pico...all seems alike.... But, all said; it still is an interesting subject to read.. just for the sake of reading; if not for finding loopholes in the theories of Amritya Sen or Allen Greenspan.

But, spending 6 hrs deciphering Economics; or for that matter even Comic stuff is a tough ask. But, i guess a manager is taught to endure even the most inhospitable conditions... Hope i never get to see them...!!

Today was also the day, when blokes from my club were busy preparin the campsite for the adventure course, to be held @ the National Park. Setting up the campsite & managing it for 7 days is in itself quite a task managerial task.
Though, it has the ability to drain u out completely, the rewards in terms of the commaraderie & the joy one gets out of interacting with kiddos is worth all the slog.
The course starts every year on Christmas & lasts till New Years eve. Like always, this year too, it should be a rock & roll affair.

Now, i need to focus my thoughts on some studies; while the left half of my mind yearns for some Hot sizzling Caffine / Coffee / Capuchino ... hope, i have not already passed on into a dream....Snrrrrrr.....

ps... the Notorious Mossies of Belapur have finaly managed to lay low a friend of mine. She seems to be suffering from Malaria like symptoms. The dabba service out here is quite delicious & yummy.... & bloats my entire system.... Thankfully, the gym is helping me shake n spank the lethargy syndrome.

Day 21:

The Technology Management lecture was on Strategy. It was quite an interesting session lasting for nearly 3 hrs. The main focus was on understanding the rationale behind developing a Strategy. Strategy as a subject of learning has its merits as it gives one an insight into what goes on behind the developing of a successfull coorporation, brand, advt, etc

Just as the lectures ended, the Laptop blokes turned up with the relevant kit. The next 3-4 hrs were spent in basically supervising the process of OS & s/w installation. There were a few hickups along the way. Eventually, by 8.30pm, the laptops were handed over.

That's when we realised teh mountain of tasks that was eagerly waiting to be disposed. Presentations, synopsis, etc... Man, from now on, it is going to be a race against time. Hopefully, life should get more settled in the days ahead, with all the nitigrities sorted out & we should be ale to concentrate more on the task @ hand.

Day 20

We had a new faculty joining in.. This time for HRM... an elderly, spectacled , fellow.... Resembled the majestic Roll Royce Silver Phantom.... Well, i had to bestow that honour on him...given his energy, enthusiasm & exuberance... He has travelled far & wide; as part of his academic lecture series programs around the globe. The best part was, I somehow got a feeling, he was talking on the same wavelength... & had a breezy approach to teaching....A trait common to all the 3 faculties that i have encountered. However i had to give a cynical reply to his query on relevance of HR.. Fr HRD as a function was a bromide & had no relevance. Thankfully, he took that staement in his stride. Well, looking forward to hearing from the Silver Streak in the days ahead.

What does one do, if a vendor gives a verbal commitment & later backtracks.... I would give him a GPL & that's what i did... well, in the bargain, the remainder of the day got jacked. Well, this bloke who appeared to be a very friendly chap; began acting strange @ the nth moment, when it was time to deliver... The least he could have done was pass on relevant info. People who don't have the courtsey to do such a simple act shld never be entertained. Lesson... Smoothtalkers should never be relied upon... For they haev the ability to pass on all the crap except what is needed. Bloody ASSHOLES....

Day 21:

My GYM schedule in Belapur has finally started. Fr 100 bucks a month, i couldn't have asked fr more.. A neat but tiny place with all basic equipments..... The senti mujik though seems out of place.... As for the gym instructor, the poor fellow was seen snoraing his way to glory ..even when i left the place.

Today, a new vendor was identified & the order given. He was a far cry from the earlier nutcase. Though the cost has escalated, relaised that the new model of IBM is lighter & has higher memory.... Need to see the damn thing, befr passing any further judgement. A new vendor implies, another round trip to Goregaon & the bank.... Man o man... bank formalities are a pain ... Customer care... it is more likes Chinese torture with a gregarious smile....Phew..... This paper, that paper, this zerox, that sign....

After a brief encounter, zipped off to Borivili to handover the bicycle to my frnd . Hope to pick it up from him sometime in Feb.... Cycling in the chilled out climate is not good fr my system.... It was a refreshing 30 min ride... Felt like heaven to be driving the Flying Pigeon after so long a time...

Now, time to dwell into my accounts & economics gyan....

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

Day 16,17,18,19:

I guess the above numbers share a story.... Boss, the accelarator pedal has been pushed... & I have already started gasping....Saturday was spent listening to Accounts apart from finalising on the Lap-Top... zeroed inon the Thinkpad; becs it looked kind of neat, strong & handsome...
Who cares; anyways... as long as it works without too much fuckups; fr at 35K ; it doesen't come cheap.... The Bloke who was selling it was a rather cool n smart Bhori... He was a Pharma guy; who later setup his Dealership fro IBM @ SakiNaka....

Man.. these days; moving out of the peacefull environs of Belapur & entering Mumbai city is a nightmare.. The crowds, traffic & everything else about Mumbai sucks.... Hopefully, i get to stay put in Be;apur after the course....

The morning walks & exercise regime are getting into a decent groove.. To save on time, i have made my chai wala's shack under a deserted building as my morning exercise floor, followed by news paper reading area & gulping 2 rounds of chai worth 10 bucks....

My Chai fetish, i slowly drilling a hole in my pocket; Lsot track of the upteen amount of chai i have in a day..even during lectures.... ( Staying awake is the execuse given..)

Sunday, we had a dose of IPR.... Intellectual Property.. Wonder why Asians should even consider such an obnoxious word....after all, Ain't All The Good THings In Life Supposed to be Free..;) " The lecture was a bit dull; though the Prof was definitely Hot... She was from the Pharma world & was sharing her experiences with us... My colleague who was smitten by her; eventually understood the meaning of SPINSTER... I guess there is always an oppurtunity to improve once Vocab.....!!

MAnic Monday..With high hopes, we all cancelled all lectures to attend a 2 day seminar on Capital Markets....conducted by UTI @ their Vashi campus... The idea was to get external enlightened by paying 300 bucks for registration... The only thing of value from the whole; event was a Good Lunch .. It was basically a research papr presentation forum.. & in about a hr of the seesion comencing, I was lost in translation... navigating through InterGalactic space... Phew man.. It was more of Capital Punishment..& that too after paying hard cash...
It was basically not meant fr us... A bad miscalculation I must say..Unable to bear the Agony, I had to curtail my seesion only to the first half; after that I rushed to the nearest movie hall... while my frnds stayed back.. KALYUG, APHARAAN, Bluff Master...
Gave a serious thought to all of them... but the ticket prices were not exciting enough..so moved back home, had a bath & walked over to college.. Spent valuable time understanding Accounts till abt 11.30.. This was a much better way to spend time...

Skipped todays Seminar & rushed home to collect the Bank Draft from the bank..& also complet e the remng paper work.. Met up with a few frnds...& spoke to half a dozen of them over the phone.. Had picked up a few books with an intention to read.. They r still staring at me eagerly; while I prepare to move back to Belapur...

Enroute, need to collect the Gas Cylinder...can't buy one fr now..as it is too expensive..( rs.1300/-) The small cyclinders are lying @ my frnds place...Shall pick one of the un-utilised cylinders lying @ my frnds place...

Time to move my ass.... Tomorrow... is another big day.... Need to chk on the laptops, & a new faculty for HR....

Friday, December 16, 2005

Day 15:

The intention was to wake up early in the morning & explore the area.... Though was up & awake by 6.00am; managed to move my ass from the sleeping bag only after 6.30am. This delay meant, I had to get moving in a jiffy. Finished my early morning chores & rushed out in my shorts & sneakers.
Of course, today was also the day when the Stanford babe was expected to lan from US. An Aeroflot flight was supposed to land her @ Sahar in the ealry hours of the day. There was expectation all around.... had to wait & watch..

The morning walk was qute an interesting one. Managed to take a peep @ the gym, ... a clustrophobic place with music blaring & a bunch of muscle men pumping iron.. The funny thing being, the chap who was supposed to maintain the place was snoraing his way to glory on the inclined bench.

Early mornings are quite cool now tah winter has set in. The surprising aspect of Belapur apart from the ghostly n vacant buildings are the plethora of offices belonging to Management schools, National Safey Council, Institute of Engineers Office, etc.... There is also a good premenade under construction. Sadly just like the vacant structures, even this work seems to be lying idle; waiting its glory days..fr the moment, ppl r using it as a safe place to perform their morning jobs.

There is also teh DY Patil Institute of Bioinformatics & Birla School for management. During this one hour walk, managed to do some reasonably good warmup along with the much needed 2 cups of grama Chai... tha was refreshing. On reaching home, managed to do the Tibetian after a real lonng time..& felt good... being away from home; one gets to follow u'r own schedule @ peave without any interference...

Spent some time with Accounts.. This slowly seems to make an impression on my grey cells... Even the lectures now seem not as nightmarish as it used to..... The Jamaican babe from Stanford..finally made her presence felt for the Accounst lecture... She appears to be a cool due.. though, I guess she must be reeling under the effects of Jet Lag.... hopefully; we should get to know her better in the days ahead.

For the moment, watching Monster apart from putting final touches on the IBM thinkpad....

Time to push back to base..to freshen up ... & hopefully read a bit of Atlas Shrugged... It is @ a very delicate state.... Man..o.. man... it is one mind blowing book.. Wonder why I didn't have the intelelctual courage to lay my hands on the book earlier...

Anyways..now time to move... Need to be back & accompany the Accounts Prof who is staying back for dinner....

Thursday, December 15, 2005

Day 14:

Finally everything seems to be finally falling in place. The bank issue appears to be settled. Having reached Belapur by 9.00am, rushed home after a not so decent breakfast. Met the blokes & later managed to revise a few lessons ofd accounts. But by noon, my exuberance was on the decline as I felt zonked... Phew... ytd's Accounts lectures were heavy but every bit interesting; with topics like Bills & Promisory Notes being covered. With Prof came up with so many relevant & current examples .. Just made us realise, the various benefits of knowing the nititegritties of finance. Also, it brought out the fact about how innovative & inventive some of the lessor known traders are in managing & multiplying their money. Though, all of it didn't register, it did make sense in some way or the other.....

Since, returning back to Goregaon was no longer an issue, I could make more valuable use of the time. Spent it reading ( Atlas Shrugged) , hogging ( a very delicious thati) & eventually walking upto Belapur Stn for some good chai. Hmmm... Sleeping was demanding its due..& managed to get the best sleep in a long while...

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Day 13
The work @ the bank just never seem to end..... At this rate, i might just end up paying the rent @ Belapur.... Now, I am expected to present myself again, .... Tomorrow...Once More....
REached college with the remainder of my luggage. Oh yes.. the climbing gear is definitely there... For, I know for sure, there is one bloke who is planning to attend his NIM basic course once he becomes a manager...Ahhaa.... isn't that interesting... So much so, we have already figured out the gym where we would start training....
At 100 bucks a month, it seems to be a steal.... Hope, the gym doesen't turn out to be a converted loo or bathroom & instead is well equiped.
Today, the lecture on Technology Mangmnt was extremely interesting...,as we were doing afew case studies & also understanding the values of creativity & innovation.
Spend the remainder of the evng, shopping for household products & toileteries.....
The good thing about the college is we have a reasonably good projector that can double up as home theater system..... And add to that, we are expected to watch movies on a regular basis... to get an deeper insight....
Hmm.. i managed to bring the VCD of Monster Inc... I guess cartoons are always very entertaining & at the same time..enlightening....
Hope to catch up on some good movies in the days ahead......
Time to shut shop.... need to rush back home..early tmrw... & show up @ the bank...
Tonight is going to be first night @ BElapur..

Monday, December 12, 2005

Day 12:
It was a rather interesting day... Got the feeling, I was about to embark on a trek. ... Ahaa the load on the shoulders.... the gadha majoori..... that awesome feeling of being a porter..... The sack was loaded to the brim...
As I was packing my sack, it was my folks who were more interested... in ensuring that I had all the relevant stuff.... got the feeling, there were helping me setttle down in Belapur fro good....phew....
Met my colleagues ..... along the way & finally we dropped in to college in a zapped state. The lectures were a disaster... My vision was begging for mercy...
You guys reading this might be wondering... When on earth would I start appreciating the lectures.... Hmm..I hope soon.. For the moment, I am hiding under the execuse of incessant travelling . Shifting base to Belapur should solve all my worries & thereby make life & studies interesting......
Track this space to keep tab on my further progress ...!!

Day 11:
Saturdays are meant to hog..in the name of Knowledge Lunch... in the company of a corporate hotshot....
Well, it is a good bahan to eat & drink....
Honestly, i kind of like the idea of sharing lunch with corporate honchos ..with the intention of shring info & getting dope on the industry they belong to.....
After the sumptuous lunch, it was time to spend time @ college doing some reading & watching some presentation.
The presentation that needs to provided on Information Systems seems to have caught everybody's fancy.... Monday oh no..Tusday is the Big day..
For the moment, its time to meet a good friend for some accountacy lessons...

Day 10
Not a very happening day; except that we managed to get pocession of the flat.... A place for the 4 Monks to meditate..as & when time permits.
The accounts lectures were as usual..a bit over the top.... It was brought to a premature end; thanks to the timely intervention of MSEB. Well..these blokes are extremely punctual when it comes to Switching off the power in the guise of load shedding. This is a daily ritual; which we need to get acquainted to.... especially in the evng between 5 & 6.
Tomorrow is our weekly off.. A much needed break..I must say.... Intend to wrap up the assignments... though, it might be too optimistic....

Those were the days..My Friend...!!(how it all began on a bhaiya cycle)

Brothers In Arms

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

I hope to be there one day..... Posted by Picasa

Day 9: Was it an Illusion..??

In another 2 days, I should finally be shifting base to Belapur ..& i should in all probability remain there for the next 1 year. Seems like a long time; but given the manner in which the past 2 years has wizzed past, it is just a matter of a few days...

Studies apart, gymming, swimming & cycling have been the topmost priorities..... The first 2 have been sorted out, given that YMCA is nearby & they have a jolly good swimming pool & gym. I was worried about the last bit. Though cycling along the express lanes & bylanes of Belapur is definitely an interesting thought; I am keen on developing my endurance over long distances ... which would involve distances in excess of 500km. Unfortunately in Mumbai, I was yet to come across any bloke or group, who were involved in serious cycling.

Last week, I had the luxury of meeting these 2 swiss blokes, all of 19 years. They had left base some 8 months back & ever since have been roaming around Europe-MiddleEast-Asia......on their bicycle. Only recently, they had entered India through Pakistan & before u realised, they are off to Goa & Kerala. Seeing these chilled out blokes was awe inspiring... Well, what's life worth, if one doesen't have the passion to make it rock..!! Kudos to these kids .... they have made me realise a few things.... When u can't find the right people, no point hanging around.... Just rip & the rest shall follow... For, this world has plethora of followers & a handfull of leaders...

As I was making my way to college from Belapur Station, enjoying the warm Winter morning; I was startled to see half a dozen or so multicoloured high performance bicycles....parked near a restaurant. I literally had to take off my sunglasses & take a closer look, to ensure myslef, it was no illusion. My eyes just couldn't believe it... just behind them, were the owners clad in cycling attire..resting after having given the bikes a good rip. Before long I was interacting with them. These blokes were from the Railway Cycling team..& Vashi-Belapur-Khargar happens to be there training area. Took some courage to ask these blokes if I could join them. Yes came the reply.... What a brilliant way to start the day..Ain't it. Had i known about this, would have shifted base to Belapur long back. But, I guess the more precious things in life are hard to find & when they pass by you, one should be prepared to grab the oppurtunity. All i need next is to manage a helmet..& convince my good friend to lease the cycle to me for another year, if not sell it.

That's all ..Lectures..there was nothing much to talk about.... Accounts .. I need to get my act together ..else i might drown under the sheer weight of book-keeping....!!

Day 8: An Energetic Day

Economic Times..has started making sense... It is no longer a treatise written in Inca dialect. The Yellow page seems to be making sense. Spent the early part of the day taking notes for reference apart from scrutinising our new abode. This was followed by a short session on Accounts & later on Technology Management. Though, it is early days, the 2 profs appear to be very knowledgeable & approachable. I guess that is more important... No point having a highly qualified bloke, who can't mingle with the students. So far so good..touch wood. Technology Management is an interesting subject initself; covering various aspects of technology & it's implications on Business.

Management as a course seems to be making a +ve impact on my thought process. All along, I had a cynical view of managers & management as a course. Though my thoughts on the former still holds, the latter seems to have got diluted.

Seems like, I have been passing through a phase wherein u start questioning some of u'r old thoughts n belief's & land up with a completely new percepective.......!!

Day 7: Gale Ki Kharaash..Nakh Bandh..Sab Kutch Ulta Pulta
Was grounded @ home.... Well, lets say..felt toolazy to lift my ass & move to Belapur..fr another round of Accounting gyan. It was noon, by the time, I finished with my bank formalities..& luckily, my throat which has always fascinated my doc, gave me a perfect alibi to stay put @ home. The doc as expected was amazed at the dazzling red glow & prescribed a few pills. Ended the day by managing to visit some wonderfull friends for a much needed round of Dhansak & Black Forest Cake... Yummmm is the word...Posted by Picasa

Day 6: Accounting Basics: U R Frozen..When u'r Eyes R Not Open

Got zapped as the day ended.... Finance ..especially acocunts can be a vee bit taxing for the system. Having had the luxury of enjoying my after lunch nap; the past 2 years, it was an enoromous challenge to keep my mind & vision focussed on what the prof was explaining. Made a great deal of effort to keep the sleep deamons @ bay; but for now alteast, they seem to have won the race. 1pm to 3pm are the most disastrous hrs for a student.

It was quite evident to all & sundry that I was managing to steal a few moments of wonderous oblivion in the guise of taking notes. Don't even bother to peek into my notes; they might appear like an unbreakable code. Well, the prof was extremely sympathetic to our plight; but refused to relieve us of our agony; as he appears to be extremely committed to the cause.

He seems very much concerned about my progress; given that I & my colleague happen to be from a non commerce background... & it is quite evident that I am gasping.

Was quite relieved to reach home.. for my throat has been acting wiered & the journey back n forth is turning out to be a nightmare.Exhaustion is an understatement.

Day 5 : Sedated Neurons : under the Spell of FINANCE

The day was spent listening to Corporate Finance gyan, partially clouded by the hangover from yesterday. Finance ..Finance ..Finance.it might appear to be my Achilles Heel...for the moment....
Inspite of going throug the fineprint of Brealey Myers; there were a few hiccups as the lecture progressed. My neurons appear to freeze when left to endure the financial lingo. Still, life is not as miserable as i might portray it to be. The neurons in general seem to have accepted the inevitable & started responding in a +ve manner. It is a different matter; that they need a great deal of pampering ( breakfast + chai), prodding (vigorous knodding of head ) & other pyrotechniques.

The days lecture lasted for only 2 hrs. Later, we were given time off to finalise on the laptops, house, discuss the progress of course & faculty etc. Managed to do all that ..but man..lack of sleep can throw a spanner into all well laid plans. By the time, we caught the train back, the vision was getting blurred untill i blacked out ( don't worry..was just sleeping) . It took a Fight Club scene enacted between an elderly n energetic man ( remember the Advt for Zandu ka Kesri Jeevan.. aap 30 saal ke budhe ho ya 60 saal ke Javaan!!) & a young jackass to wake me from my slumber.

Still zonked ...but need to do some reading fr tomorrow.... Hope the vision doesen't get distorted to soon....

Day 4

It was 11.30 by the time, we had wound up after the kick off party. Well, it was not really a kick off. We were the same bunch of blokes who have been quite well acquainted with each other for the past 3-4 days. In fact, it was a motley bunch of ppl, sitting around the table, worshipping food & spirit while the vocal boxes were busy generating a steady drone.

The goddamn waiter just refused to serve me beer; for some strange reason. While, rest of the blokes were busy admiring the light brown goddess, I was left to sip water .. Only after sending a few reminder service, did they introduce me to her.

Never realised, how much of a chatterbox, i have become in the past 2 years. Was quite surprised @ the ease with which I was getting into conversations... & sharing my rather convoluted sense of humour. I guess ppl were enjoying the banter out of courtsey. Thank heavens for civilised behaviour .....

As we wound up, the impending lecture scheduled for 9.00am next day was on my mind. Though, it seemed like quite an optimistic scenario; mornings are always a trivial time to set the ball rolling. Crashed home @ close to 1.00am.
